Self-hosted n8n is the right choice if volume is high or data must stay with you, and you have someone, possibly me, to keep the server healthy. n8n Cloud is the right choice if you want none of that responsibility. Both run the same workflows.

Is n8n hard for my staff to use?

n8n is not hard for staff to run and monitor; building new workflows is somewhat harder, and that is the point of the runbook. Staff should be able to see a workflow, understand it, and know who to call. Building new ones is what I am for.

n8n can run AI agents, and it does it well. Tool use, memory, and a human approval step are native. Most of the agent work described on this site runs on n8n.

n8n, the platform my own companies run on

Where it is the wrong tool

A business with no one technical and no appetite for a server. Self-hosting means someone owns updates and backups. The cloud version removes that, at a price closer to the alternatives, and for a handful of simple connections Zapier is the faster start.

Who should pick it

Businesses with real volume, data they want to keep on their own infrastructure, or workflows that need code. Anyone who has hit a Zapier bill they did not like. It is where a high-volume data sync and the inbox and call triage agent usually live.
